Celebrate Matariki at Tairāwhiti Museum – explore the stars and discover the stories of the constellation Matariki in the inflatable planetarium, Starlab.

Starlab tours every half hour from 1.30pm – 3.30pm. No pre-booking.

Starlab is an inflatable planetarium on loan to Tairawhiti Museum from Te Manawa Museum in Palmerston North.

Matariki, also known as Pleiades, is a cluster of stars that rises above the horizon in the north-east before dawn after the first full moon in June, and is a marker for the celebration of New Year in the Maori calendar.
