A Special Concert with Rob Thorne, Charlotte Yates and Gil Eva Craig

Rob Thorne presents one half of the show. Using modern loop technology and traditional Maori instruments made from stone, bone, shell and wood, Rob creates a transcendent aural experience that touches the soul with timeless beauty through personal exploration of an ancient practice.
“Thorne has successfully re-imagined and reconstructed traditional Maori instrumental music for the 21st century.” – NZ Musician, April/May 2014

In the other half of the concert, singer songwriter Charlotte Yates will be joined by award winning sound designer, multi-instrumentalist and co- producer Gil Eva Craig. They will perform songs from Charlotte’s latest album Archipelago, amongst others, with Gil accompanying on acoustic bass, Eb tenor horn and guitar-lele.

Over her 23 year career Charlotte Yates has been a member of iconic comic folk group When the Cat’s Been Spayed, an APRA Silver Scroll finalist (1991), toured extensively here and abroad, and produced three compilation albums of music set to the words of some of our greatest writers ; James K Baxter (Baxter, 2000), Hone Tuwhare (Tuwhare, 2006), and Witi Ihimaera (Ihimaera, 2011).
