Ngā Tai o Kurawaka: He Kura E Huna Ana
Taki Rua Productions

Everyone and everything has a beginning.
Share our sacred knowledge – one of our most treasured pounamu creation stories.

He kōrero tēnei mō Poutini rāua ko Waitaiki.
He whakaari e whakatau ana i ngā uauatanga, ngā taero o Tūtekoropaka, a, me tēnei mea te aroha ki te tangata.
Ka ruku tātou I ngā wai i kauria ai a Poutini ki te rapa i te kura e huna ana, arā, ko Te Pounamu.

He Kura E Huna Ana tells the story of Poutini and Waitaiki. Poutini is the kaitiaki, or guardian, of pounamu on the West Coast. Waitaiki and Poutini fall in love, but she is married to Tamaahua.

The obstacles, challenges and danger they faced are metaphorically expressed through Tūtekoropaka.

We escape with Poutini and Waitaiki through seas, lakes and rivers to the place where Poutini changed Waitaiki into pounamu, an enduring symbol of his love.

If you are lucky enough to receive a piece of pounamu from the Arahura River, remember Waitaiki and Poutini.

This is an open-process performance which encourages the audience to feed into the development of a new work.
