Ludwig Treviranus - is a pianist graduate of Auckland and Florida State Universities now teaching in Wellington. In music performance he aims to share his experiences, using the excitement of the piano repertoire to open the creative imaginations of his audiences. “… simply lovely playing … a major pianistic talent here in Wellington.”

This year's performance will focus on music from two giants of the classical world. It is entitled 'Teacher and Pupil' and will examine the successes and tensions in the relationship between Joseph Haydn and Ludwig van Beethoven, initially as mentor and student but becoming composers in sequence as each transformed classical music.

The first half of the recital demonstrates the influence of Haydn's teaching and late composing on Beethoven's early work (his Sonata C Major op. 2 no.3 is dedicated to Haydn). The second half discusses the tensions in their relationship, and shows how each cemented his own musical voice later in life as a composer.

Haydn Sonata in C major, Hob XVI/50
Beethoven Sonata in C major, op 2/3
Haydn Andante and variations in F min, Hob XVII/6
Beethoven Sonata in F minor, op 57 Appassionata
