Commemorating and Celebrating: World War II Kiwi Soldiers in Italy
Barbara Pezzotti presents this three-week course which follows the footsteps of Kiwi soldiers in Italy during the World War II. You will examine Fascist architecture in Rome and in Latina/Littoria, which was founded in 1932 under the Fascist administration; look at the main battlefields, such as Montecassino, the Sangro River and villages around Florence; and explore the Kiwi’s final destination, the fascinating city of Trieste. You will gain an insight into the hardship endured by New Zealand soldiers and their relationships with the local population as well as Kiwi participation in the Italian Resistance.

If you are interested in Italian history generally, thinking of travelling to Italy or even coming on our Commemoration and Celebration: In the footsteps of World War Two Kiwi soldiers in Italy study tour in May 2015, this course will provide contextual insights into the New Zealand soldiers’ experiences in Italy during World War II.
