New Zealand-born Bryan Gould was twice elected an MP in Britain before unsuccessfully contesting the Labour Party leadership there in 1992. He has written or contributed to a number of books, including The Democracy Sham (2006) and Rescuing the New Zealand Economy (2007) and is working on a book about moral philosophy. Former Guardian (UK) journalist Toby Manhire leads the conversation.
