Travel with Steam Incorporated north from Kapiti via the spectacular Manawatu Gorge to Woodville for a double headed steam adventure.

The train will be hauled by TWO steam locomotives Ja1271 and Ab608 and we will be using our fleet of heritage carriages, many with open end balconies.

South of Otaki the second engine will be in “light steam” but beyond Otaki both locos will be in full cry as they work the large train through the Horowhenua and Manawatu.

The train will include a buffet car selling hot food, drinks and snacks, plus a souvenir counter for all sorts of railway and steam memorabilia. Refreshments will also be available at Woodville Station.

Several photo opportunities are planned during the day to witness the magic of a double headed steam train in action. In addition we have arranged a photographers’ bus to run between Ashhurst and Woodville to give some additional photo opportunities of the train winding through the Manawatu Gorge.

There will be a one hour stopover at Woodville while the train is turned and serviced.

We will request that you swap sides in your carriage at Woodville to allow all passengers to be seated on the river side of the train in one direction through the gorge.

During the Woodville stopover the local Rotary group will have some refreshment stands set up on the station platform. If staying in the vicinity of the station you will be able to watch the train being turned on the “balloon loop”.

Passenger stops will be Paekakariki, Paraparaumu, Otaki, Levin, and Palmerston North.

Any profits from this excursion will go towards our Ka945 restoration project.
