The Show starts at 7.30pm but get there earlier to have a meal cooked in Lisa's kitchen and a drink served by Matt and his team at the bar. Great country food and atmosphere guaranteed.

We (Grafia and friends; Mike Rigg, Stefan Brown and Callum Gentleman) have this and two other shows coming up starting on Fri Sept 11, a house concert at Rob and Sue's, 31 Manuka St. Mstn., , and on Thurs Sept 24, our 1st gig at Moon1 in Newtown, Wgtn.

Grafia's Story. "so far so good"
Grafia is an acronym for "Get Right Away From It All". It is also a group of musicians and artists, photographers, designers, video/film makers, writers and poets who love to express themselves collectively which results in the band's songs being written, played and illustrated. This group so far has had about fifteen contributors and we have recently made our first recording of original songs. It's five years since we started playing songs together and organising performances and concerts. Alot of fun has been had and our ability to entertain and play music that is both listenable to and exciting is now obvious. This is due to the devotion of several key members of the group.
Keith Austin, our musical director and keyboard playing maestro, also fronts on bass, and piano accordian . Backing Keith with his serious musical ability is our violin and recorder playing instrumentalist, Stephan Schulz, who transforms the lives of scores of young people every year by teaching them the love of and relationship to music in his day job as head of music at the local secondary school, Chanel College. The third member of the core trio is Rob Maunsell, who has grown into his role as lead singer and rhythm guitarist. He also loves to play harmonica and does this tastefully, mostly at appropriate times in songs that are blues inspired. Filling out the rhythm section of the band is John Jukes on drums. He has been drumming since his late teens and has an insatiable passion to be sitting at a set of drums driving the engine room of the band.

The core trio of Rob, Keith and Stephan are currently working on a collection of original songs, written by Rob and arranged by the trio at their weekly practice sessions at Rob's home in Masterton where the three of them live. Kemp is also a Masterton native, with John and Peter having their home bases in Central Hawkes Bay. Titles of the songs include "Think about it", a thought provoking boogie blues led by Keith on piano, "The Archivist" a folk ballard with a memorable chorus, and " Quietly going blues", an ode to Rob's father, John, set in an extended slow-tempo blues form. The recording has been done at Rob's home with contributions by friends, Stefan Brown, Jordan Tredray and Lenny Te Whare. The initial production was managed by Lorenzo Buhne and his co-techno collaborator Benni Krueger.

Grafia is playing with an inspiring palate of musical colours and styles that are bound to appeal to many and varied tastes.
