For one day each year the Flotilla Whau activates the Whau river, bringing it back into view as a place of movement, transport history, and recreation while also highlighting its value as an ecosystem.

The flotilla is open to all groups and individuals and to all types of vessels - kayaks, row boats, sail boats, waka ama, paddle boards, small powered boats and rafts.

If you don't have a vessel but would like to get out on the water, there will be some spaces on vessels available. Or, bring a picnic and enjoy watching the flotilla from Archibald Park or one of the other viewing points along the route.

You're encouraged to decorate your vessel and dress up. There will be a prizes for participants promoting caring for the Whau River. All participants on the water must wear a life jacket and abide by the health and safety rules provided by the crew on the day.

8.45-9.15am - Arrive and unload vessels at Archibald Park.
9.15am - Safety Briefing
9.30am - Launch and muster vessels
10am - Flotilla departs
11am - Picnicking and activities continue at Archibald Park
