Bowie’s Bebop Barbecue

Playing on the Village Green as part of Gemco Jazz Bowie’s Bebop Barbecue are a talented trio of trouper’s who play improvised versions of the master songwriter David Bowie’s compositions.
The Trio consist of:

Tom Pierard – Drums:
Tom is no stranger to Hawke’s Bay audiences as a member of the Led Zepplin tribute band “Lead Zeppelin”, renowned percussion group “Strike”, music composer Rhian Sheehan and numerous other projects around New Zealand. He is a much sought after collaborator and an extremely talented, twenty first century Renaissance man!

Caleb Robinson – Double Bass:
Caleb is a freelance musician who has played a number of times at the Queenstown and Tauranga Jazz Festivals; played in 2006 & 2007 on the main stage at Parachute Music Festival performing in front of 25,000 plus people; and played on shows such as Elvis, and TV show Maorioke final. He has recorded many albums one of which is the Rapture Ruckus album “I Believe”, and he toured New Zealand for one year with Excel School of Performing Arts playing bass guitar. He is the director of his own company, Base Promotions Ltd, producing and arranging original music. His current music projects include the Iva Lamkum album Black Eagle, Little Bushman (with Warren Maxwell) and The James Illingworth Trio.

Anton Wuts – Wind Instruments (Saxophones, clarinets, flutes, recorders and train whistles):

Anton Wuts studied music at Victoria and Massey University, and was active in the wellington music scene during and after these studies. Freelancing in a number of jobs, he has played with Letterbox Lambs (rock band), RNZAF central band (symphonic band), Wellington Sinfonia (symphony orchestra), Fracas (jazz wind trio), Stroma (new music ensemble), and Saxcess (saxophone quartet). He then left New Zealand to experience a life at sea. Playing in the show band aboard the cruise ship "celebration", and eventually becoming the musical director, he found the sailors life not for him, and returned to teach music in Hawkes Bay. He currently plays in the “Tropical Downbeat Orchestra”, “Professor Dynamite and the Banditos”, “Ben Throp and the Intimate Strangers” and “The Revolutionary Arts Ensemble”
