Grafia ( from the Wairarapa ) and Guests from Masterton and Hawkes Bay) will perform a four hour show in the restaurant/bar at Clearview Estate, in the tradition of " Live music on Friday night" at this exciting and innovative venue.

The band will be traveling up from the Wairarapa, collecting John Jukes, the drummer from Waipukarau and special guest Lindsay Gibb from Haumoana on the way. Stefan Brown from Masterton will travel with Rob and Keith who have been busy in recent weeks fine-tuning ten new songs, now ripe for picking!

Several of these will be played along with some of Stefan's originals and the selection of blues, folk and Irish covers the band is renowned for. With Lindsay on board for the last two sets the action on the dance floor will warm up and boogie-ing is guaranteed! A J Hunter will be setting up his video- image screen and stage lights to enhance the "getting right away from it all' atmosphere created by the music we play.

Grafia is an acronym for "Get right away from it all". It is also the name of a group of musicians and artists, photographers, designers, film makers, writers and poets who love to express themselves in a collective form which results in songs being written played and illustrated. This group so far has had as many as fifteen contributors and we are about to make our first recording of original songs. It's five years since we started playing together and organising performances and concerts. Alot of fun has been had and our ability to entertain and play music that is both listenable to and exciting is improving. This is due to the devotion of several key members of the group.

Keith Austin is our musical director and keyboard playing maestro who also fronts on bass, piano accordian and occassionally drums. Backing Keith with his serious musical ability is our violin and recorder playing instrumentalist, Stephan Schultz, who transforms the lives of scores of young people every year by teaching them the love of and relationship to music in his day job as head of music at the local secondary school, Chanel College. He is not able to be with us on Fri April 17. The third member of the core trio is Rob Maunsell, who has grown into his role as lead singer and rhythm guitarist. He also loves to play harmonica and does this tastefully, mostly at appropriate times in songs that are blues inspired. Filling out the substance of the band are John Jukes on drums. John has been drumming since his late teens and has an insatiable passion to be seated at a set of drums driving the rhythm section of the band.

The band have a number of "friends" who make a core contribution to performances, and Stefan Brown with Lindsay Gibb will be helping out for the Clearview show. Each have very different styles of playing and therefore influences to the way the songs are delivered.

The shows Grafia has created over the last five years have included many other local musicians and bands some from as far a field as Wellington (not so far), Auckland, Gisborne and Hawkes Bay.
Together with their artist, photograher, video maker, A J Hunter, who covers the gammit of artistic roles called on from poster design, photograhy, video imagery screen presentations and website development, Grafia is building a complimentary palate of musical/artistic offerings that are bound to appeal to many and varied tastes.

There is no cover charge, not only is the wine and ber selection excellent but the food and the bar service under Ketan's direction are second to none!
Please come and enjoy an evening with us?
