Mike was appointed to the position of New Zealand Special Agricultural Trade Envoy in 2013. Prior to this Mike has been heavily involved with the restructuring of the sheep and beef industry entities in New Zealand, and is the former Chairman of Beef + Lamb New Zealand (formerly Meat & Wool New Zealand), and the New Zealand Meat Board. Mike served as a director on these boards for 10 years, retiring in March 2014.

Mike has grown his farming governance roles since 2005 as a director on a number of privately owned farming companies overseeing nearly 150,000 sheep and beef stock units in New Zealand.

Currently Mike owns and runs a finishing farm in Hawke's Bay. He is also a director of ANZCO Foods, and several privately owned farming companies overseeing nearly 200,000 sheep and beef stock units in New Zealand.

The RBN provides an opportunity for rural based business people to participate in professional development to grow their businesses through networking and learning.
