Celebrate Mental Health Awareness week 2015

Gala Opening 6-7:30pm on the 1st of October, then open 10am - 4:30 pm every day until the 11th of October.

Press Release:
“Hearing Voices: A Cacophony of Creativity” tonight from 6 – 7:30 at The Upstairs Art Gallery in Lopdell House. It will be open to the public from 10am till 4:30pm each day until Sunday the 11th of October.

The exhibition is a special event for Mental Health Awareness week and centres around the stories of 9 people who hear voices. To keep these stories interesting and anonymous, we have had professional voice actors re-tell the stories, and composer Stewart Allan has created moving soundscapes behind the voices.

As you enter the gallery you are confronted by a wall of headphones, the idea is that you choose a story or stories to listen to (each one is unique) and look through the gallery at our local artist’s interpretation of these experiences.

The end result is a fuller appreciation of the experience of hearing voices, an understanding that recovery is possible and a celebration of the value that mental health challenges can bring."
