The Arthur Lydiard Legend events were created in conjunction with the master coach himself, on courses that have produced our most famous and successful Olympic athletes, the likes of Peter Snell, Murray Halberg, Barry Magee, Bill Bailey and many others...
The Legend event is steeped in history and was developed with Arthur Lydiard himself prior to his passing in 2004 - this event was not meant to be a memorial to the great man, and has become a major road run/walk event in the calendar.
All events follow the famous Waiatarua routes (set in the Waitakere Ranges in West Auckland ) previously used by Arthur Lydiard to train his prodigies - Arthur's training courses are now world-renowned and countless elite and not-so-elite athletes from many parts of the world have used them, and still do, as a key element of their training regimes and schedules. Arthur's courses and his training principles have stood the test of time.
The Legend event was an idea conceived by Ian Winson after viewing a television documentary earlier in 2004, featuring a young athlete completing a run on the Lydiard training route., Contact was made with Arthur to seek permission to organise an event in his name, he gave his blessing and written permission - The Legend event was born.
