New Zealand is one of the world’s best natural laboratories for studying major challenges of the 21st century, such as climate change and the dwindling supply of natural resources.

Dr Ian Graham is Chief Editor of the award-winning book, 'A Continent on the Move', General Manager of Research at GNS Science and a geoscientist of more than 30 years standing.

Dr Graham’s talk will highlight advances in our understanding of the forces and processes that have created New Zealand’s spectacular landscapes. His talk will also include insights into the causes of the recent, destructive Canterbury earthquakes, the potential for ‘megathrust’ earthquakes, and provide an informed geoscientific perspective on topical issues such as mine safety, fracking, deep-sea drilling, and adapting to climate change.

Hot Science - Cool Tales talks are free and run in conjunction with GNS Science.
