Asaki Kajima Loughnan: Invisible

In this, Asaki Kajima’s second solo exhibition, she explores all that is hovering under the surface or behind the façade, unseen.

The invisible is what we hold close, and what defines us, but it’s what we conceal from the world and from each other. In these works the artist has created physical manifestations of her deepest, most invisible challenges and experiences and chosen to share them.

The found and natural materials used in Asaki’s works have their own invisible histories but also ground the ethereal sculptures in the present, and suggest her growing connection to her built and natural environment in Hawke’s Bay.

These works encompass the unknown past, the future unseen pains, and the ongoing, circular nature of time.

Here, the invisible collides with the tangible to tell Asaki’s unique and intimate story.
