Brilliant young pianist Jason Bae will present a programme of Romantic piano music in Waikanae as part of an 11 centre Chamber Music New Zealand tour. Born in South Korea in 1991, he made his concerto debut in Auckland at the age of 12. In 2008 he was awarded first prize at the Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition in New York, which led to a performance at the Carnegie Hall. In the same year, he was the New Zealand Young Performer of the Year. In 2009, he won second prize at the Lev Vlassenko International Piano Competition in Brisbane, where he also received a special prize for the Best Performance of Chopin. Numerous other awards have followed, including 1st Prize at the 2013 New Zealand Inaugural Wallace National Piano Competition.
This year, as well as competing in the Hastings International Piano Competition in the United Kingdom, he has concerto performances in New Zealand and London, recitals in London, his second nation-wide tour of this country for CMNZ, and has just recorded his first CD with Austrian Gramophone at Vienna Konzerthaus. In 2015, Jason became an Associate Fellow of the Royal Commonwealth Society awarded by the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust.

Jason received his Bachelor of Music in piano performance with First Class Honours from the University of Auckland under the tutelage of Rae de Lisle. He has also studied at the Aspen Music Festival and School and has recently completed his Masters of Arts in piano performance at the Royal Academy of Music in London studying with Christopher Elton and Joanna MacGregor.
In 2012 Jason was the First New Zealander to become the Young Steinway Artist and the following year he was appointed as the youngest Chief Conductor of God's Vision Church Choir in London.

Jason will perform a programme of Liszt, Puccini/ Mikhashoff and all four of Chopin’s Ballades. The concert is at 2.30pm in the Waikanae Memorial Hall.
