Jonathan Besser & The Zestniks with Mere Boynton & Carolina Moon

Composer/Pianist Jonathan Besser was born in New York City in 1949, and studied composition in New York at the Mannes College of Music and with David Loeb. Resident in New Zealand since 1974, he has created acoustic and electronic music in collaboration with leading writers, choreographers, musicians, artists and film makers, including Gaylene Preston, Mary Jane O’Reilly Warrick Broadhead, Keri Hulme, Ross Harris, Michael Parmenter, Philip Mann and Allen Brunton, Don McGlashan and Billy Apple.

The Zestniks are his latest music group, comprising a number of leading young Auckland classical and jazz musicians. They will be performing a number of Jonathan’s original works, along with exciting improvisations.

Guest vocalists are Carolina Moon, who sings some original Besser songs, and Maori international singing star Mere Boynton, “…one of Wellington's musical taonga" (William Dart, NZ Herald 7.3.15)

The Zestniks are:

Yvette Audain - clarinet;
