Synopsis :
This Documentary about spies and double agents, secrets and lies, and memory and oblivion, uses footage from Hollywood movies, archived material, interviews and digital effects, to make the viewer choose their own interpretation of the truth about Juan Pujol.

“Garbo, the spy” is the hilarious story of a Spaniard who swindles the Nazis. It is Madrid, 1940 when Juan Pujol, self-educated, manager of a chicken farm and concierge of a hotel, begins to plan what he believes will be his contribution to the “welfare of humanity”. He decides to offer his services as a spy to the British, but his naïve plan fails. Far from being discouraged, he manages to convince the Nazis that he can act as a spy for them. Surprisingly, they believe him and he gets hired. New agent name: Arabal.

After a series of adventures, Pujol is discovered by the British Intelligence Agency, at which point he turns into a double agent. New agent name: Garbo. From London, he makes the Third Reich believe that Normandy is nothing more than a decoy and that the true landing will take place in Calais.

Thirty years later, an English writer of spy novels, Nigel West, begins to doubt the death of Garbo and begins to look for him. He finds him in Venezuela, where he has started a new life. He has remarried and is working as an English teacher for Shell. Nobody in his circle of friends knows of his participation in the war.
