Wellington Artist Alexandra Murcott has been selected as Artist in Residence at MeiPAM Gallery, Shodoshima, Japan.

Alexandra Murcott who works under the pseudonym Moena Moxham is exhibiting at In Good Company 122 Cuba St, 10th- 21st of August.

Opening night (Thursday 13th) is supported by the musical maestro DJ Takas and the crafty local beerzies sponsored by the delicious Parrot Dog.

Proceeds will support Alexandra’s return to Shodoshima, Japan in September where she will be conducting workshops, facilitating community events and creating another collection of work that will be shown in the gallery of MeiPAM

Alexandra describes her work “My process is playful and dynamic. Sketching, collaging, modelling and traditional techniques move through to tighter, finished and polished bronze sculptures, ink, and etched glass work. I embrace change, improvise and adapt. I expand on my skills by working with new people in exciting environments, taking an entrepreneurial and self-directed approach to sourcing these opportunities. My art is documentation and progressive; it records my life lessons and occurrences. I am so thrilled to exhibit the ideas and art that has resulted from the inspiration and experiences I had while in Japan. New work showcasing a different skill will be displayed alongside previous work for sale. Japan and New Zealand have so many wonderful symmetries and interesting juxtapositions, it is such a rewarding and valuable network to foster for Wellington.”

To preview Alexandra’s current artwork visit her website and be sure to go upstairs In Good Company gallery 10th- 21st of August to support her travels and artistic development in Japan.
