Speaker: Mary Betz

When Dorothy Day gave up her anarchist/Communist affiliations during the Great Depression and became a Catholic, she looked at the life of Jesus and wondered ‘Where are all the Catholics who do Jesus’ work?’ She set out, with the French peasant philosopher, Peter Maurin,
on an endeavour which would inspire generations to live and work with and for the poor. This workshop will introduce us to Dorothy’s life, work and writings, and inspire us to take up Jesus’ mission in our own way!

Morning tea is included.

Mary Betz has background in ecology and theology,
and works with the Catholic Diocesan Justice and Peace Commission to raise awareness and encourage action for justice among parishioners. She has worked in environmental impact assessment, adult faith education and for Caritas. She has recently finished training for spiritual direction and enjoys walking alongside people with lots of questions about their faith and spirituality, who may be on the edge of church, or who have doubts and uncertainties. Mary has two grown daughters on different continents, and lives with husband Peter in the Titirangi bush.
