Music at the Museum - Hopetoun Brown - Presented by The Rogue Stage and Rotorua Museum

If you've ever seen Supergroove perform you may have noticed the bouncing horn section of Tim Stewart and Nick Atkinson. The pair recently formed a band called Hopetoun Brown which revolves around Tim's big soulful voice coupled with the deep tones of Nick's bass clarinet. Catch them on Sunday 1 November 2015 setting Rotorua Museum alight with their special kindling of blues, stomp and soul!

Back in their school days Nick and Tim fell in love with the unique sounds of New Orleans. Since then they've worked on sharpening their skills on that classic Southern repertoire, but late last year something happened that changed their sound. Tim started to sing that Big Easy classic Saint James Infirmary. When the bass clarinet picked out the bass-line Hopetoun Brown was born. "There's such a natural balance between Tim's voice and sound of the low clarinet" says Nick. "They're very complementary, almost complete."

Since then they've been gigging around central Auckland haunts like the Portland Public House, Golden Dawn, The Wine Cellar and the Leigh Sawmill.

The duo have recently recorded at The Lab Studios in Mt Eden, with their first track Demanding Blues available digitally.

Rotorua Museum Café will be open from 6pm with a tasty dinner menu, pre-ordered platters and drinks. Doors to the lower foyer will open at 7pm where a bar will be available for drinks and light snacks. The show starts at 7.30pm.

Tickets are $30 per person or $12 for students and tickets are on sale from Rotorua Museum reception, Musicworks (1141 Pukuatua Street), or through The Rogue Stage at theroguestage@gmail.com
