Internationally-renowned soprano Madeleine Pierard joins The Choir of Wellington Cathedral of St Paul to present a concert commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Chunuk Bair on Saturday August 8. The scene of some of the bloodiest fighting of the Gallipoli campaign, it has an indelible connection with the city of Wellington. The Wellington Infantry Battalion under Lt Col William Malone took the tactically important ridge in the early hours of August 8. Malone, a tough and heroic leader, was killed in action that day with the majority of his battalion.

Pierard, Malone’s own great-granddaughter, will read excerpts from his diaries as well as performing with the Cathedral Choir. The programme consists of music inspired by WWI by Parry, Walford Davies, and Howells, as well as Wellington composers Andrew Baldwin and Timothy Hurd QSM.
