Ben graduated from Auckland University with Degrees in Science and Law. Prior to joining Haigh Lyon, Ben worked in both the private and public sectors and has conducted prosecutions both for the New Zealand Police and the Auckland Council.

Ben will be presenting the extensive new changes to the Health and Safety legislative framework.

From his presentation you will gain understanding of:
The paradigm shift from a focus on employer-employee responsibility to responsibility for workers within the workplace. This means that all levels of people involved in a workplace will have responsibility for each others' safety and liability will attach not only to a business but also to its officers and workers.

The obligation to consult and engage with workers will be given much more emphasis and PCBU’s are required to have worker participation processes.

The proposed level of penalties for offences for PCBU’s, officers and/or workers which are significant and Worksafe New Zealand has been created to ensure an improvement in compliance.
