Free for spectators. Games start 1.30 pm daily in the main event (January 1st-9th) and generally last 3-4 hours.
There is also a display of chess books and tournament quality chess sets for sale.

The new NZ National Chess Centre is the superb location for the 2015 National Open Chess Championship. Overseas masters and grandmasters will include Grandmaster Allan Stig Rasmussen (reigning Danish Champion), Klaus Bischoff (reigning German Champion), and Indonesia's 22-year-old chess superstar WGM Irene Sukandar.

The main event is one round per day. Over the final weekend (Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th January) the NZCF (New Zealand Chess Federation) Rapid and Lightning Championships will be staged.
