Pacific Generations at Bashford Antiques & Interiors features Renowned Samoan artist Fatu Feu’u and Joshua Bashford of Pakeha Samoan decent. Exhibition opens on Sunday 20th September at 2pm and is ongoing to the end of 31 October.

Fatu’s career spans over 30 years. Pacific Generations will exhibit recent and past works. Vibrant oil on canvas works dwell on Pacific iconic symbols going back thousands of years depicting his Samoan genealogy and heritage.

Joshua Bashford was mentored by Fatu Feu’u who was Artist in Residence at the Macmillan Brown Centre for Pacific Studies in 2011. They have exhibited together in Canterbury, in Apia (Samoa) as part of the ‘Return to Hawaiiki’ visiting artist’s programme, The Diversion Gallery in Picton and the Little River Gallery. He gained a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree (honours) in 2012 from the University of Canterbury.

Joshua was born and raised in Little River and has converted his late father’s engineering workshop into a state of the arts studio housing his huge printing press that he executes his large mono prints on canvas from his intricately carved woodcuts depicting surrounding wildlife – fish, birds, landscape, rivers and sea. He is a keen fisherman and he is constantly inspired by the surrounding wildlife and fauna - Lakes Forsyth and Ellesmere, Birdlings Flat, rolling hills, sea, fish, hawks translate into the motifs, which are intermingled with his images from family and his Christian faith, hence the title theme of Artweek is Faith Fauna Fanua.
