The Paekakariki community is banding together to support the Nepal earthquake relief with a fundraising variety concert and silent art auction.

With two young locals, Reuben Harcourt and Eileen Witham, currently volunteering in Nepalese orphanages, the disaster has been brought home to the village in a very personal way. Remarkably, Reuben has already raised nearly $20,000 in donations from New Zealand which he is using to buy food and other emergency supplies for the region he is based in (see links).

Performers include Hinemoana Baker, Apirana Taylor, Shayn Hurricane Wills, Holly Jane Ewens (Rosy Tin Teacaddy), Janet Holborow, Gilbert Haisman, the Kapiti Gospel Choir, Te Roopu Kapa Haka O Paekakariki, Steph Casey, Frances Mills, Mark Te One, and musicians from Kapiti College.

A silent art auction will feature donated works from Sir John Trimmer, Bodhi Vincent, Alan Wehipeihana, Harriet Bright, Storm Davenport, Frances Krsinich, Rachel Benefield, Sebastien Jaunas, Rhonda Thompson, Kimbra Taylor, Alan Wehipeihana, Lyndon Keene, Caroline Beaufort, and Greg Cheston.

The president of the Wellington Nepalese Society, Ms Ranu Allardyce, will speak at the event on behalf of the Nepalese community. Other speakers include Reuben's mother Vicki Farslow.

Doors open 6.30pm for viewing art. 7.30pm show. $10 adult, $5 youth, $20 family. BYO.
