We're excited to welcome one of Wellington's best loved artists and art teachers, Mary Amour, for her exhibition, 'Pennies from Heaven'. This exhibition will combine a retrospective collection of earlier work as well as a series of new paintings. After many years running her wonderful gallery and art supplies shop in Upper Hutt, Mary wants to focus more on her art and teaching. She is looking forward to creating more of her own work

Mary’s works are metaphysical in many respects being inspired by artist Giorgio de Chirico.
“I have always said that I can’t sing or dance, that’s why I paint.”
“Drawing has been a passion of mine since forever, along with colour in the form of delicious paint and wonderful subjects… that is what I call Heaven.”
“Inspired by sculptures, objects and people, I find they trigger my paintings to then become ‘my story’ and reason to paint.

As well as being an amazing artist, Mary is excellent at sharing her skills and knowledge, and she has given so much joy to others through her teaching. In the last weekend of her “Pennies from Heaven” exhibition she will be teaching two exciting classes in our new drawing room above the gallery. The first one on Saturday 20th June, is “Drawing the Portrait” and the second one on Sunday 21st June, is “Drawing the Still Life”. Each class is a full day workshop running from 10 - 4.30pm with excellent tuition.
