Wellington 5 piece Phantasticus is pleased to announce a very special concert to celebrate the launch of their album: Phantasticus Acousticus. The iconic wooden backdrop of Old St Paul’s will provide a fitting counterpoint to the lush sound of the experienced acoustic quintet.

Phantasticus is a high energy outfit featuring several well-known Wellington musicians. The ensemble blends original compositions with gypsy jazz, swing and balkan influences. With Ana Christie and Alex Hills on violins, Mike Kingston and Rick Shaw on guitars and Jacqui Nyman on double bass, the band has continued to evolve since their beginnings in 2012.

Their new album, Phantasticus Acousticus, was recorded with in demand sound engineer Lee Prebble in ‘The Surgery’ in August 2015.

“The album is a soulful collection of some of our favourite original works, plus a cheeky arrangement of Putting on the Ritz / Constantinople. The concert will showcase works from the album, some new originals, plus a few of the band’s favourite gypsy jazz standards,” explains violinist Ana Christie.

“We are really excited to launch the album in Old St Paul’s, “ she enthuses. “It’s the perfect venue for our music. So beautiful, and the acoustics are amazing!”

Phantasticus looks set to enjoy a great summer season of engagements, including an appearance at CUBADUPA 2016.

Phantasticus at Old St Paul’s, Friday 20th November from 7pm. Tickets $15 available on the door or $12 through eventfinda.co.nz.
