Bach Choir directed by Michael Vinten present striking settings of supernatural stories by Romantic composers Sibelius, Mendelssohn and Schumann, abetted by Douglas Mews, piano, and a cast of superb soloists, including in the major work, Schumann's cantata "Pilgrimage of the Rose", three of last year's Lexus finalists - Bianca Andrew (mezzo) as the Rose, Oliver Sewell (tenor) and - in a supporting role - Christian Thurston (baritone). Soprano Marian Hawke is a tragic heroine in the finale to the first act of a Mendelssohn opera "Loreley", left unfinished on the composer's death, and features again in the Schumann, while Roger Wilson lends his bass to the part of the Gravedigger and Maaike Christie-Beekman sings the alto roles.

These works have seldom been presented in New Zealand but we hope will amply reward listeners! We are singing in English to enhance understanding of the drama.
