Immerse yourself in a superb programme featuring some of the great works of the Russian canon.
From the lush Romantic repertoire we’ll bring you Borodin’s Quartet no 2, an unashamed declaration of love to his wife, while Shostakovich’s passionate 4th String Quartet, with its use of Jewish folk melodies, will take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, from breath-taking excitement to heart-rending sorrow. Stravinsky’s Three Pieces exploit the full potential of the instruments and Nikolai Kapustin’s light-hearted Fuga shows the influence of jazz in post-Cold War Russia.

Whether you’re a confirmed ‘Russophile’, a chamber music devotee or a complete newcomer to our concerts, we’re confident you’ll be moved, one way or another, by these Russian masterpieces.

Programme Two:
Kapustin: "Fuga" from Quartet no. 1
Stravinsky: Three Pieces
Shostakovich: String Quartet no.4 in D
Borodin: String Quartet no 2
