Te Kōkī, New Zealand School of Music, in collaboration with Saxcess, New Zealand's premiere classical saxophone quartet, is hosting SaxFest 2015, a Classical Saxophone Festival over Queen’s Birthday Weekend, 2015.

The Festival starts at 9:30am on Sat 30th and culminates in a Finale Concert 1pm on Monday 1 June which will feature solo and ensemble performances by participants including a saxophone orchestra of up to 20 players.

The Festival at the NZSM Campus is open to classical saxophone players of diverse backgrounds and experience from across New Zealand. The participants will have the opportunity to take part in or observe masterclasses and concerts, and receive individual and ensemble tuition from some of our most experienced and accomplished classical saxophonists. These tutors include NZSM Lecturer and Head of Woodwind Deborah Rawson, prominent classical sax exponent and composer Michael Jamieson, award winning NZSM alumnus Reuben Chin and the well known sax guru and inspiring teacher Mark Hobson

All tutors are past or present members of Saxcess and there is a strong emphasis on coaching saxophone quartet, especially in regard to the upcoming NZCT Chamber Music Contest and chamber music assessments for university student quartets.

This year Saxfest will feature special guest artist Simon Brew and also performances by our team of tutors, NZSM Sax 4tet and Sax Orchestra. Simon, a leading classical saxophonist (now based in NZ as director of the RNZAF Band), is a prize winning internationally acclaimed soloist, and veteran of many high profile performances in Europe.

If you would like to participate, please download the 2015 NZSM Saxfest Registration Form on the NZSM website (www.nzsm.ac.nz/events).

This form should be completed and posted or emailed to events@nzsm.ac.nz by Friday 24 April. Payment by cheque can be included in the mail or, more conveniently, registration payment can be made by credit card at Eventfinder.
