It is that time again – they seem to come around very quickly! School holidays run from 26th September to 9th October 2015. We have lots to keep the kids entertained, providing a wonderful day out for the entire family.

School holiday programmes with the Kiwi North Educator run for the first week only, 10am to 12pm Monday 28th September to Friday 2nd October. Children 5 to 14 years, $5.00 each. They must be accompanied by an adult who will be free. There will be a different programme each day and bookings are essential. Enquiries and bookings to 4389630 ext 0, or admin@kiwinorth.co.nz.

In the Kiwi House our young kiwi, Puna and Kapua, are displaying better every day as they settle into their new environment. Flash the Tuatara will be coming out for a close-up encounter Monday, Wednesday and Fridays just after 11am kiwi feeding. Note this is at the keeper’s discretion and if there are any signs of stress Flash will have a day off. You will still be able to see him in his enclosure. Relax in our cosy corner with the kids, read a story, do a puzzle or colour a picture.

In the Museum our fabulous World War 1 exhibition, “The Great War 1914 to 1918 – Northland Remembers” will remain until 2018, and the local Whangarei moa story is told. Beautiful taonga Māori from our extensive collection can be seen.

The Bernina Up Close 2015 Exhibition opens 3rd October on the Museum Mezzanine. This showcases the wonderfully creative talent of Northland, with amazing wearable art and fashion design.

Trains and tractors will be busy giving rides Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of both weeks and the Rock and Mineral Club will be open with activities for the children.

The Gypsy Travellers Fair is here at Kiwi North Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th of September, the first weekend of the holidays. The mini trains will be running that day as well.

Are you a grandparent looking after grandchildren these holidays? Take advantage of International Day of the Older Person on October 1st when all seniors have free entry to the Museum and Kiwi House. The Vintage Car Club are opening their garage and Planetarium North will hold 2 sessions at 11am and 11.30am.

So much to see and do. Something for everybody in one very special place.
Happy holidays.
