Far from fustian, students find Shakespeare saucy and scintillating, engaging and ever so current. Five and fifteen minute scenes will be performed by the 49 groups chosen from the 23 Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ Regional University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festivals in public performances at the St James on Saturday 30 May from 10.15-5.30pm and Sunday 31 May from 9.15-4.25pm. The currency of the Bard's works makes them easy to fit into any era and accessible to all. For the first time, there is a scene fully in Te Reo! Maori and Colonial time elements feature in others as well. Commedia dell'arte style Grave Diggers play alongside Romeo and Juliet in 2015! All decile level schools are represented in the 47 performing, with the national spread being from Tikipunga in the far North to Invercargill, Hokitika to Christchurch, New Plymouth to Gisborne - and many places large and small in between.

The SGCNZ Young Shakespeare Company will perform, followed by the Presentation of Competition Prizes and Festival Scene/Individual Awards, on the Sunday evening from 7.00-9.30pm. Winners of SGCNZ's allied competitions of costume design, music composition, essay writing, static image, poster and DVD design will be announced and their work displayed, and costumes modelled.

Spend a day or an hour or so and revel in NZ's entrepreneurial youth's renditions of Shakespeare's works.
