The Silversmiths’ Guild of Canterbury has a Winter exhibition of work at Arts in Oxford from 25 July to 19 August. On display will be a range of silversmithing skills, and is not just limited to jewellery. You will see and be able to buy work here by both hobbyists and those whose business is jewellery design. Best of all, everything is handmade and every item is a one-off, so if you do decide to purchase anything, you’re definitely getting a unique piece. What’s more, the Silversmiths Guild is a not for profit organization, and offers evening and day classes for anyone who would like to explore this creative and highly addictive craft further (contact silversmithsguild@hotmail.com).

The Silversmiths’ Guild of Canterbury was founded in 1982 and up until the earthquakes had its home at the Art Centre. Now residing at The Tannery development in Woolston, positioned within a hub of creatives, the Guild rubs shoulders with a neighbouring yoga studio and bridal wear designer.  As diverse as its neighbours, the work on display here at Oxford has something for everybody.  Silver, enamel, copper, gold, precious and semi-precious stones – it’s an abundance of treasure for the jewellery-lover.

Visitors will have the opportunity to make their own pair of silver earrings from a choice of three designs in a “Have a Go” session held at the weekends only. Tools and materials provided, cost $25. Book your place by emailing solvejgr@gmail.com.

Also on display at Art in Oxford is ‘Hot off the Press’, a printmaking exhibition, which will compliment the jewellery on display by providing another medium to please the eye.

Arts in Oxford is located at 72 Main Street (next to Jo Seagar’s Café) and is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00am to 4.00pm.
