The Auricle and the Cantabrian Society of Sonic Artists invites participants to join in this unique exploration of self and world through sound. The Auricle’s Sonic Portraits workshop offers a unique opportunity to compose a self-portrait through sound. Drawing on the practices of active listening and field recording, participants will be aided to compose sonic portraits of their lived, day-to-day experience of the environment they inhabit.

The workshop will take place in two distinct parts;
Part 1: Introductory Session, Saturday, October 17th.
Part 2: Editing Session, Saturday, October 31st (see listing).

The first is an introductory session, which explains the basic concept. Participants will be taught active listening and basic recording techniques.
Between the introductory and editing sessions, participants
will have two weeks to make recordings of their own, unique sound-environment at their discretion. No prior experience with recording, audio editing, or sound practices are required. All you need are open ears and a simple recording device, which could range from a smart phone to a stand-alone portable
audio recorder.

A limited number of places are available, early bookings advised.
