Helmore Stewart Springston Trophy - An Event Not to Be Missed

The largest pony club teams event in the south island is coming to the Waimakariri District this year. Eyreton Pony Club, a branch of the North Canterbury Pony Club, located at Mandeville Sports Club in Mandeville, near Swannanoa, is hosting the prestigious Springston Trophy event. Springston Trophy is a three day event where teams of six riders (two juniors 14 and under; two intermediates 15-17 years; two seniors 18-24 years)are tested in three disciplines - dressage, cross country and show jumping. It is the largest event in the South Island Pony Clubs calendar and one that every aspiring Mark Todd or Jock Paget aims to ride at.

This year there are 40 teams from pony clubs around the South Island including two from the North Island. Eyreton pony club is the current holder of the Trophy and will therefore be the defending champions this year. They have two teams entered. Competition will be strong however it will be a fun family atmosphere with all competitors riding in their club colours and displaying their club mascots.

The event is open to the public free of charge. We encourage spectators to come and watch young riders competing in this sport. There will be food stalls and trade stalls to cater for all.

We have had amazing support from sponsors across New Zealand and from local businesses. Country TV will also be there filming for a special programme.

With the generous support of New Zealand Community Trust and Air Rescue Services as well as fundraising and donations from Club members, Eyreton has built a brand new purpose built cross country course for its members. The first time it will be used is at the Springston Trophy event and it will also be used for the NZPCA National Championship event in April 2016. It is a wonderful facility which will be greatly appreciated by riders in North Canterbury, Canterbury and from around the South Island.

Friday 2nd October - FMG Dressage Day from 9am to 4pm.
Saturday 3rd October - Clarke McKenzie Cross Country Day from 9am to 4pm.
Sunday 4th October - Saddlery Barn Show Jumping Day from 9am to 12 noon. Mounted prizegiving at approximately 2pm.

Come and enjoy some equestrian action at Mandeville. We would love to see you there. Plenty of parking and easy access to watch the competition.
