A showcase of traditional wind instruments and Toro Pikopiko Puppets.

Attracted to the many different sounds of birds, the Goddess of Wind Instruments - Hine Raukatauri and the Rainbow Fairies are carried by the breath of the wind around Aotearoa and beyond.

Jeffrey Addison and Whaitaima Te Whare play a variety of traditional Māori wind instruments – Clay, wood & bone kōuau, pūtātara, pūrerehua, poi āwhiowhio & hue puruhau as well as other traditional wind instruments - didgeridoo, bamboo flutes and ocarina.

Audience members join in the puppeteering, as Birds & Rainbow Fairies, on a journey through lands filled with native birds and their songs. Te Hā O Te Hau premieres at Taupo Museum, Saturday 25th July. Two free performances will commence at 2 pm & 2.45p.m.

This event is part of the Taupo Museum's annual Matariki celebrations which include an Art Exhibition by Ngati Tuwharetoa artists, children’s activities, talks, poetry, a puppet show, a Maori wind instrument demonstration, cultural performances and a hangi.
