In this three-day workshop, you will investigate how poetry can push and pull, generate, meet, or avoid a reader’s expectations. As in other art forms, poets can use their material to create pressure and then choose when and how to relieve it. The sessions involve reading, writing, workshopping and listening to and watching your own and others’ poems.

Pre-course activity:
For the first session please bring with you 13 photocopies of a poem you enjoy and to be prepared to discuss why you like it.

Target audience:
Publication isn’t a prerequisite, but this course will be most useful to those who already have experience in the writing and reading of poetry. Those who have completed the course “Poetry On and Off the Page” will enjoy this as a way of further exploring what was introduced there.
