The Emperor's New Clothes - adapted by Doug Clarke
Directed by Annette Searle

Riccarton Players has been presenting quality kidult productions for Kidsfest since it’s conception, this year they have selected The Emperor’s New Clothes.

This delightful story that will satisfy children and adults alike, is a retelling of the short story by Hans Christian Anderson, with many additional well-known characters scattered throughout for good measure and to encourage involvement We envisage audiences sitting on the edge of their seats wanting to get involved in the action and attempting to stop the villains from succeeding with their devious plot.

Traditional characters from other children’s stories have guest appearances, from Alice in Wonderland, Big Ears (without Noddy), the Queen of Hearts, a feisty Knave and a rather cutesy little dragon that loves to eat princes (or so she says). Alongside the Cabinet Ministers and a meddlesome Cook the story wends its way through a 90 minute frenzy.

Who will foil the nasty evil D D Foxx and her side-kick E C Catt from stealing the Emperor’s gold?

Who will be brave enough to tell the Emperor the truth and stop him embarrassing himself in front of his loyal subjects?

Will the Dragon get to eat the Prince or win her fight with the Knight in Shining Armour?

Who will keep the Queen of Hearts from removing the heads of all she encounters?

Only time, music and dance, Act Two mixed with random chases will cause all this to revealed.
