Travel with Steam Incorporated on this circular excursion for an easy and relaxing outing. A great way to enjoy Mothers Day.

The train will run from Paekakariki to Paekakariki via Wellington, Masterton, Woodville & Palmerston North. Travelling over one of Wellington’s best kept secrets, the grand circle route, we will circumnavigate the Tararua Range in a counter clock wise direction. During the journey we will pass through Eketahuna (with its “new” station) and Mangatainoka plus travel through the spectacular Manawatu Gorge.

Hauled by a diesel locomotive the train will comprise our fleet of classic red “steel” cars. There will also be an open air viewing platform on the train. The train will include a buffet counter selling sandwiches, drinks and snacks, and a souvenir counter for all sorts of railway and steam memorabilia. You are welcome to bring your own food on the train.

We intend making a one hour stop adjacent to the Paper Road Vineyard at Opaki just north of Masterton for a refreshment stop. There will be the option of a pre ordered meal available at the vineyard or on the train, or just the opportunity to sample some of the wine and be entertained by our own Wayne Mason. Some snack items can also be purchased at the vine yard.

A new option for this trip is to visit Pukaha Mt Bruce Wildlife Sanctuary instead of stopping at the Opaki vineyard. For this option a bus will meet the train at Masterton to transfer you to Mt Bruce. After your sanctuary visit you will then be transferred the short distance to rejoin the train at the new Eketahuna Station.

We will make several other stops during the day for photo opportunities and a leg stretch.

You can board the train at Paekakariki, Plimmerton, Porirua, Tawa, Wellington, Petone, Waterloo and Upper Hutt.

Opaki Autume Banquet Option Cost $37 (Limited Nos)
At Paper Road enjoy Honey and orange glazed baby Bordeaux ham with a roast vegetable medley & Balsamic Glaze, complimented with a seasonal salad. Also included is a glass of Paper Road wine. Later in the afternoon we will serve you a slice of Yummy Mummy’s Cheesecake at your seat.

Opaki On Train Meal Option Cost $27 (Limited Nos)
After arriving at Opaki you will have 30 minutes to have a leg stretch, enjoy a glass of wine (own cost), and be entertained by Wayne Mason. We will then request that you reboard the train and will serve a meal at you seat of Beef Carbonnade served with seasonal vegetables and herbed mash potatoes. Later in the afternoon we will serve you a slice of Yummy Mummy’s Cheesecake at your seat.

Wayne Mason
One of our active members is the renowned Wayne Mason of The X-ray Catz, Warratahs, Fourmyula and “Nature” fame. He will keep us entertained at Opaki.

Pukaha Mt Bruce Wildlife Centre
Pukaha Mt Bruce is New Zealand's National Wildlife Centre for breeding threatened species. Learn about how Pukaha is now home to endangered species living in the wild; experience tranquil bushwalks through primal rainforest; check out the kaka, kokako, kereru, & tui. Also visit the recently completed state of the art, Kiwi House and hopefully see feeding of Kiwi chicks. Alight at Masterton. Bus transfers from train to Pukaha Mt Bruce included. Adults $27. Child $13 (subject to sufficient numbers).

On arrival back the train will terminate at Paekakariki and not run back into Wellington. For passengers boarding at stations other than Paekakariki you will have to transfer to a Tranz Metro service to complete your journey. Our fare does not include travel on Tranz Metro services.

Special Offer: Book 4 seats (or multiples of) and we will assign you to table seating (4 seats around each table) in our newest carriage. Plus provide complimentary morning and afternoon tea and a welcome drink. Limited availability!
