The NZLEAD community is all about connecting people from NZ and around the world to collaborate, share knowledge and drive change for people and culture at work. We believe that by forming these connections, and by sharing knowledge and resources, we can create a profession where we play a really important role in business adaptability. People are what make businesses really successful. Together we can realise this.

Following our awesome unconference last year, we are running three this year in Wellington, NZ on 14 October, Auckland NZ on 15 October and Brighton UK on 13 November.

These events are taking inspiration from Amanda Sterling’s book The Humane Workplace, and we’re creating a space to create connections in real life and digitally, share knowledge, work on plans and support each other in the challenges that we have. It is open to all who have an interest in the people practices of organisations and how we can do them better!

You can participate in this event by supporting from afar, attending or sponsoring. Before, during and after these events we will be regularly sharing blogs, videos and tweets. So you don't physically have to be there, but we do need your help to make it a success. You can follow the digital stream and contribute your thoughts through digital channels to.

When you attend, you will get out more than you put in. But you have to put in something. This event is about what you want to achieve and how the community can help you do it. The power to make this a success is in your hands.

We also wanted this event to be affordable for those who cannot attend the big conferences. If you don’t wish to attend, feel free to sponsor someone else to – perhaps a student or someone working at a not for profit. By doing that, you are helping those who have a limited budget, but just as much need, tap into knowledge and leverage the connections that these events offer.

Together we can create a humane world of work, one where people turn up to work with all of themselves, and make great things happen. Are you ready to help make it happen?

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What is an unconference?

The basic premise behind an unconference is that it is an open slate. There is no set agenda and there are no pre-organised speakers. You bring whatever challenges you want to work on or ideas you want to explore. We facilitate you connecting with practitioners who have similar areas of interest. The format is up to you. You could build, discuss, brainstorm, reflect. You can lead a group or just participate. Whatever it is we’ll unfurl it together.

There are so many other conferences going on, why would I want to attend this one?

How many times have you walked away from a conference with so many great ideas but struggled to implement them? You can use this one-day event to connect and work with other practitioners on how to bring your ideas to life.

What does my contribution to this event cover?

Your contribution to this event covers things like the, lunch for attendees, the venue, any technical hookey up stuff we need to do, maybe some drinks at the end of the day and any other bits and bobs – like forks. There is no profit being made here and, as you can see, the price is low because of this. Any surplus will be put into future NZLEAD community events.
