The St Margaret's College major production for 2015 has been written especially for New Zealand high schools by Dan Bain and Luke di Somma, and will be premiered by St Margaret’s College at the end of Term 2 this year. Dan Bain and Luke di Somma have created a production that is relevant for our young people, tackling serious issues, presented in a contemporary, upbeat manner that will be fun for both performers and public.

Synopsis
Riverhole High School is a fictional NZ state school. After years of trying, the school has finally made it to the grand finals of the National Secondary Schools’ First Fifteen Rugby Tournament, which they will be hosting. Everyone is expected to pull their weight for this once in a lifetime event, however, there is a clash with a rock music competition which the “invisibles” of the school live for each year. What will happen?!

The Writer-Directors
We value this wonderful opportunity for our students to work directly with the writers, both of whom hold weighty CVs: Musical Director Luke di Somma has worked for The Court Theatre, NZ Opera and Showbiz, and is currently Chief Conductor for the ChCh Youth Orchestra and Artistic Director of the ChCh Pops Choir along with founding the ChCh International Musical Theatre Summer School. Director Dan Bain is the Artistic Director of the Court Jesters and works as a comedian, improviser, actor, director and playwright. He has collaborated with The ChCh Court Theatre, the Fortune Theatre in Dunedin, NZ Playhouse and is a prize-winning writer/playwright with Radio NZ and the 48 hour Film Festival.

The cast & crew
Lead roles and two ensembles come from Year 9-13 girls from St Margaret’s and boys from Christchurch Boys High School, Christ’s College, St Thomas of Canterbury College and Rangiora High School. The cast numbers around 100 and technical and backstage crew will be enlisted from our student body later in the term. Rehearsals commence early Term 2, culminating in a schools’ matinee June 29th, before opening to the public for evening shows in the Charles Luney Auditorium June 29th-July 2nd.
