The Sacred Ground

A six week meditation course

Led by Erin Taylor and Peter Fernando

7:30-9:00pm, Tuesdays, November 3 - December 8, 2015

Pa Maria, 78 Hobson St, Thorndon, Wellington

It is easy to lose connection with the sacred dimension of our experience. We live in an age where much of life is quantified and evaluated according to materialist values, with the aim of achieving maximum ego gratification. Unconsciously internalizing this world view can confine us to the realm of thought, and trap us within patterns of compulsive self-judgement. This can make us feel increasingly disconnected and alienated from a sense of wonder, innocence and open-heartedness.

Some current trends in meditation tend to avoid mention of the sacred and spiritual dimension of practice, and may simply hold out the promise that we will perform more efficiently at work, be more successful and feel more positive. However, the traditional teachings emphasize our human potential for a deeper meaning, well-being and freedom from suffering.

In this course we will explore the sacred dimension of practice - drawing on Buddhist teachings on life and death, the roots of existential dis-ease, and the possibility of living from ethical awareness and an open heart.

Topics will include:

- Vulnerability as a gateway to the sacred
- Self-compassion in an age of drivenness and competition
- Finding meaning in being as well as doing
- Embodied awareness as a catalyst for awakening and transformation
- Exploring and working with the roots of relational suffering in our lives
- Recognising the sacred truth of 'inter-being' and what it asks of us in a time of planetary crisis

Erin and Peter will be present for each session, taking turns to offer guided meditations and reflections, and facilitating group discussion.

Cost: $120
