During World War I - 1914-1919 - the Langbein family lived at Broadgreen House. The parents, Fred and Mary, had eight children, six boys and two girls. Two of the boys were old enough to enlist and served in the war.

The Langbeins will be a model for exploring the following questions in this temporary exhibition:
- how did New Zealand-based families keep up with the world news and war happenings overseas?
- what did the families do to support the war effort from home?
- how did the war affect New Zealand's standard of living?

The exhibition will also highlight some rare and special domestic items in Broadgreen's collection and created during the war period.

This is a family exhibition, and a children's holiday activity will be on hand for our visitors to take around and fill out while at Broadgreen.
