The Wild Garden Party

Sat 7 Nov 2015, 6:30pm–10:30pm

Where: Garden Marlborough, 92 High Street, Blenheim, Marlborough

Restrictions: R18

Listed by: GardenMarlb2013

Walk on the wild side at Virginia Macfarlane’s The Spring in Rapaura. A few minutes from central Blenheim, beside a tranquil pond fed by the headwaters of Spring Creek, the Garden Party goes wild.

This year, The Wild Garden Party has an emphasis on the informal. Unleashing your inner beast is not compulsory, naturally, and partygoers will no doubt want to wander around the extensive spaces of The Spring, where Virginia’s play with plants has created a bold and extraordinary foliage effect. This inspirational garden features sweeping lawns, tranquil rippling water spanned by rustic bridges; huge pots, surprising sculptures and beautiful mature trees. Revellers can enjoy the finer things in life. Food inspired by some of Marlborough’s wild produce, along with fabulous local wines, not to mention great conversations with our presenters and supporters.

The Bayleys Art Auction, always a highlight of the evening, features artworks from local contributors. These have been developed around this year’s theme of “Barrel of Fun”, meaning lucky bidders can go home with an original and distinctive piece of work, perhaps one with a connection to the local wine industry. Profits from the auction will help support two new Garden Marlborough scholarships for horticultural students.

Culinary entrepreneur, restaurateur and raconteur Chef Jonny Schwass and his team will be cooking local wild produce on their now-famous Charcoal Relief Unit, a mobile grilling and spit-roasting station that has to be seen to be believed.

A bus will depart from the event HQ 92 High Street, Blenheim at 6.15pm for those who wish to avail themselves of this service. Bookings for the bus must be made at time of booking the Garden Party, Buses will return from the Spring at 10.00pm and 10.30pm. For those wishing to drive themselves, car parking will be available adjacent to the venue.
