Go back 100 years in time with Museums Wellington to rediscover the elegance, tenacity and style of The Home Front with April’s Third Thursday event on April 16.

Textile Historian Leimomi Oakes will discuss how the war influenced the styles of clothing worn at home, and the difficulties of clothing yourself during World War I. Clothing from the era made both by Leimomi and from sponsors The Costume Cave will be modelled and available for close up inspection during the talk.

For those wanting to achieve the romantic Edwardian or iconic flapper look, WelTec hair and makeup graduates will demonstrate how to achieve the perfect look from the 1910’s and 20’s, with a talk from Head Tutor Dany Pike.
Pianist Dayle Jellyman will perform two 45 minute sets at 5.00pm and 6.30pm, performing popular music from World War I.

Guests are encouraged to dress in period-style clothing, with spot prizes for those dressed to impress kindly donated by Unichem Perham Pharmacy.
