Timon of Athens has always been one of Shakespeare’s most immediately relevant plays, but February 2015’s Summer Shakespeare will mark the first time the play has been performed in New Zealand in 150 years. This course contextualises Shakespeare’s most obscure tragedy. It considers how the play might have worked in its original staging, attempts to explain its unpopularity and hypothesises what Timon of Athens has to offer us today.

This course compliments the Summer Shakespeare performance of Timon of Athens starting 13 February.
