Zimmerman Art Gallery is this month showing nine new works by New Plymouth artist Tony Rumball.

Rumball has been painting for more than 25 years. This depth of artistic experience is evident in the apparent ease with which he transforms large, blank canvases into compelling works of art.

Rumball’s paintings are “more commentary on the incidentals, the common experience, the daily news, than on great theories or mystical concepts. This gives the work a wide appeal ... someone raising the everyday to art” (Fran Dibble review, 2012).

A regular exhibitor in Taranaki, Rumball’s paintings have formed part of a number of shows at the Taranaki Art Gallery (New Plymouth) and Percy Thompson Gallery in Stratford. Rumball is also among the artists featured in the book “Emerging Collectable Taranaki Painters 2010-2011”.

Exhibition runs until 28 February 2015
