New Zealand’s largest single-class regatta, the 2015 Toyota Optimist National Championships, starts at Worser Bay on Easter Friday. Over 200 sailors from four countries will compete in 14 races over five days of racing. Families will be bringing dinghies from as far away as the Bay of Islands in the north and Dunedin in the south. Others competitors from Australia, Tahiti and New Caledonia have chartered boats.

Toyota New Zealand has been a generous supporter of this Grass roots National sailing events for many years, and their support is critical to the operation of the event. We are grateful for their on going support which helps our young sailors reach their dreams in the sport of Yachting. Many will start here in the Optimist class and those in the Top 5 at this regatta will represent New Zealand at the World Championships in Poland. Others may make it into another travelling team to compete in Wales, Antigua or Qatar.

The racing will take place in the waters off Worser Bay, near Seatoun.
